A 30 minute walk is not mentioned, but rather a 45m walk, where its just walking for 45m. Walks are great for general exercise, and socializing. A 30 minutes of intense playtime consists of chasing eachother, tug of war, and fetch, hes constantly running, pulling and jumping etc for 30minutes. It is almost like a beep test, just non stop. By that 30 minutes, he usually gets bored and TIRED. When trying to chase him or do anything after 30 minutes, he would rather just lay down and chew on something.

Dogs, especially working breeds, are used to having tasks, activities, and lots of exercise. Yet while dogs lifestyles have changed, their needs have not. And if you’re concerned your daily 30-minute dog walk is not enough, you’re probably right. Veterinarians recommend that dogs get between 30 minutes – 2 hours of low to moderate exercise per day. For high-energy or working breeds, vets recommend 30 minutes of rigorous, high intensity exercise in addition to 1 – 2 hours of moderate activities. Meaning if you sign up for a 30-minute walk with a walking service, your dog is probably not getting the right amount of exercise. If your dog exhibits destructive or bored behaviors after their daily walk, it’s a telltale sign that they are not getting enough exercise and mental stimulation. Going on the same walking route every day gets boring. It might be a break in their day, but it’s not exactly a break in routine. Therefore, boredom, the root of your dog’s problem, isn’t being resolved. Additionally, while you pay for 30 minutes, that might include your walker’s time of leashing up, taking notes, and fulfilling any other requests you have, so while you think your dog is being walked for the full 30 minutes, you really might be paying for the walker to be with your dog for 30 minutes.

Puppies need less ‘formal’ exercise than fully grown dogs. Taking them for long walks while they’re young can overtire them. A good rule of thumb is a ratio of five minutes of formal exercise per month of age (up to twice a day) until the puppy is fully grown. As they become older, they’ll be able to cope with larger amounts of exercise. Puppies and dogs can become frustrated and bored if they don’t get enough exercise, so it’s important that they go out for exercise every day. Formal exercise away from their normal environment gives them different environments to explore and is a great way to provide them with mental stimulation. Time and play spent in your garden should be encouraged, but it’s no substitute for going out for a walk and exploring new environments or socialising with other dogs.

A general rule-of-thumb is that your dog should spend between 30 minutes and two hours being active every day. Small breeds have moderate exercise needs with a daily walk of 20 to 30 minutes. Sight hounds need a moderate pace walk of around 30-to-45 minutes a day and maybe some short sprints is enough to keep them healthy. Giant Breeds need a 30-to-45 minute walk is sufficient. Some dogs will become withdrawn when they’re not getting enough physical stimulation. Your dog may bark and whine a lot if they aren’t getting enough exercise. If your dog gets over-excited when you take out their leash or when you’re about to head out the door, it may be a sign of restlessness and a need for more physical activity.

Most dogs can tolerate a daily 20–30-minute walk if they have a good body condition. Most dogs can tolerate a daily 20–30-minute walk if they have a relatively good body condition. If she starts to slow down about 25–30 minutes into the walk, she may be getting tired. Instead of eagerly striding forward, she may start to pant more and take more interest in her surroundings. Take your dog for a walk and monitor her energy level. If your dog drinks water and immediately crashes on her dog bed for hours, she may have overexerted herself. Not only should you monitor how long it takes for your dog to slow down, but you also need to watch her behavior after the walk.

For most overweight or obese dogs, providing they have normal heart and lung function and no other pre-existing medical conditions, we recommend starting with 30-minute walks at least five times a week. If you will be walking in hot weather, or if you will be walking longer than 30 minutes, do not forget to carry water for both you and your dog. Ideally, you should walk for exercise seven days a week. A sample schedule follows: Week 1 30 minutes per day 10 minutes brisk followed by 20 minutes casual pace. Week 2 30 minutes per day 15 minutes brisk followed by 15 minutes casual pace. Week 3 30 minutes per day 20 minutes brisk followed by 10 minutes casual pace. Try to do two 20-30 minute walks per day: 15-25 minutes brisk followed by 5 minutes casual pace. Walking for weight loss is very different from walking for pleasure. Make your objective to walk briskly from the beginning of the walk. The key is to keep it up. When you combine exercise with a proper diet and lifestyle, you contribute to your dog's health and well-being and improve the quality of life for both of you.
