Mental stimulation is a great way to keep your dog entertained and occupied so replace exercise with other activities until you are able to take them out for their usual walks. Learning a new trick or command is great mental stimulation for a dog. Get out their favourite treats and try teaching them something new. Get them sniffing: scent work can be a great way to keep them busy for ages. Hide treats around the garden or around the house and send them off in search of them.

Walking your dog should not be considered exercise. Walking offers environmental stimulation, but really is not an exercise for most dogs. Rather your dog should be running, jumping, wrestling etc. We try out best with mental stimulation toys, training sessions, etc. Training sessions work well, toys do not. Yet every morning and night we deal with atrocious witching hours, all the signs of a "bored" dog. Stealing laundry, chewing on some furniture, mouthiness to try to get us to play. After seeing that walking isn't true exercise and often not enough stimulation, I want to get ya'lls opinion on alternatives.
