You absolutely can walk your dog at night. In fact, nighttime dog walking actually has a range of advantages. Temperatures tend to be cooler – vital on those hot, summer days – while the outdoors are also generally quieter and more peaceful, which can be particularly helpful for nervous pups. However, walking a dog at night also creates several potential hazards to be aware of. The ideal time for a night walk depends on your schedule, your dog’s routine, and the reason you’re walking at night in the first place. For example, if you’re walking at night to avoid the heat of the day, you should wait until the temperature has cooled to a suitable level – usually just after the sun has set. While there’s technically no cut-off time for nighttime walks, bear in mind that your dog may struggle with anything that deviates too much from their normal routine. Aim to keep your walks early enough in the evening that there are still enough people around to be safe, and if that’s not possible, consider an alternative form of exercise that can be done indoors.

Consider taking your dog for a walk or run later in the day. Leave at least an hour of downtime after you get back from the walk so your pup can wind down before bed. The closer to your bedtime you exercise with your dog, the easier it will be for your pooch to fall asleep when you're ready. Taking your pooch for walks or playing games are sure-fire ways to wear your pup out. Much like a child, a dog needs an outlet for releasing energy, otherwise, it will be awake periodically throughout the night. If you make sure your dog gets at least two hours of exercise daily, you'll be able to watch your dog sleep all night. Take your pup out for one last bathroom break before going to bed.

So I’d say count yourself lucky & dont break the habit because it’s a complete PITA to make extra time for a walk just for toilet purposes. If you walk at 7pm I’d offer the chance for the garden every night before bed. If anything, the routine is important. But if you want to stop accompanying, scale back gradually- keeping closer & closer to the back door etc.
