Timeout can be done with children of various ages, as the duration of the timeout is determined by the child's age, with 1 minute per year of their age. Order your child to remain in the time-out area for 1 minute per year of their age. For example, 4-year-olds stay for 4 minutes, 7-year-olds stay for 7 minutes, and ages are sometimes rounded up. Exceptions to this part of the rule can be made concerning older children, as long as any TV sets in the room remain off and other toys/games remain on the shelves. Should your child refuse to apologize or apologize in a way that's rude and they don't mean it, they shall remain again in timeout for the same additional minutes depending on their age until they choose to apologize after the expiration of their time.
