Screaming is an example of an Avoidance Contingency, which is a type of Negative Reinforcement. Before: broccoli on the plate. Behavior: screaming. After: broccoli is no longer on the plate. Future Behavior: Will scream until broccoli is removed from the plate. This is an example of avoidance negative reinforcement because the behavior, screaming, prevents or delays an experience, which is eating the broccoli. In this scenario, the negative reinforcer is the removal of the broccoli, while the behavior being strengthened is the screaming. Negative reinforcements will turn into learned behaviors that can constitute good or bad behavior based on creating a favorable outcome. Avoidance Contingency allows a person to behave in a way that prevents or delays an experience.

Escape is leaving a situation with an unexpected stimulus, while avoidance is leaving a situation based on warning signals of a stimulus. And that these are both responses to control aversive/bad situations. For example, building catches on fire and person exits. If the desired response is the individual learning to escape the situation via the door, isn't this positive reinforcement because the fire was added to the situation to induce this response? Moreover I'm trying to put this in the perspective of classic negative reinforcement, and confused about what stimulus is being taken away here, and what the desired behavior is supposed to be.
