Puppies are relatively safe for the very early weeks of their life, as they will have immunity that has been passed to them through their mother’s milk. However, we strongly recommend that puppies receive their first injections at 6-8 weeks old. The first puppy vaccination should take place at 8 weeks of age - this will often be completed by a breeder, but we strongly recommend that you check. The second puppy vaccination at 12 weeks. The third at 16 weeks. As long as these three vaccinations happen at the right time, this will protect your new puppy for the next 12 months. Do puppies need booster vaccinations? Yes. The next vaccination (the annual booster) will be at 12 months of age. This will boost your pet’s protection against the myriad of diseases that can affect them.

Most puppies should get the first of their core vaccinations from six weeks of age. They should receive a second vaccine two to four weeks later, depending on the puppy’s age and the vaccine brand. Speak to your vet about best timings for your pup. If you’ve bought your dog from a responsible breeder, they should be able to supply you with vaccination paperwork. If you’re adopting from Dogs Trust, your puppy will already have had their first set of vaccinations. Usually, they'll need to return to us for their second set. As well as their initial set, your dog will need booster vaccinations every year. Your vet can tell you what’s needed – it’ll depend on the individual risk to your dog and the brand of vaccines used. As well as a first-year booster, your pup will typically need: a top-up dose of leptospirosis vaccine every year, top-up doses of canine adenovirus, canine parvovirus and canine distemper vaccines every three years.

Puppies are typically vaccinated at eight and ten weeks with the second dose usually being given two to four weeks later. Your puppy will then require a booster vaccination at 6 or 12 months. Puppies can be vaccinated as early as four-six weeks. Speak to your vet about the best timings. The costs can vary depending on what vaccines are given and when. Your vet will provide you with a vaccination record, which you'll need to keep safe. If you adopt a puppy or dog from us, we'll have already given them initial vaccinations. You should still register with your vet, and talk to them about additional vaccines in the future.

At eight weeks old – a puppy should have their first set of vaccinations. In certain cases we can vaccinate puppies as young as 6 weeks. At 12 weeks old – a puppy’s second set of vaccinations are needed to boost their immune system. A puppy will needs a ‘booster’ vaccination 12 months after the his second vaccination and every year thereafter. The price of health check and primary puppy vaccinations is £100.00 for the 2 sets of injections which are administered 4 weeks apart. If your dog’s vaccination status is unknown we recommend a full vaccination course. If you adopt a puppy from a charity, they have often been vaccinated before you take them home, however, some puppies are rehomed before they are ready for their second set of vaccinations.
