When taking your pup out for a long walk, it is equally important that they have access to water. But how often should your pup drink water during those longer outings, the answer will depend largely on the current weather conditions as well as the age and breed of your dog. Hot days require more frequent, shorter breaks for your pup to rehydrate than cooler days with lower humidity. Typically every 20-30 minutes at minimum - but depending on factors such as weather or breed you know best whether your doggo needs more or less frequent breaks. In spite of differing levels of activity and tolerance, what applies universally is that every active dog needs access to plenty of clean, fresh and safe drinking water at regular intervals throughout the day both during long walks and at home. If you’re unsure about whether Fido needs a break, watch for signs like heavy panting, fatigue and drooping head or tail - all indications that it may be time for some fresh water.

What ever the weather, it’s always important to take water out with you for your dog on walks. Dogs get thirsty the same as us and often are running about more. If you don’t have water with you, dogs can end up disappearing in search of water, possibly drinking from a puddle or worse a stagnant ditch. Now don’t get me wrong some dogs just love drinking dirty water, and different water sources can have different minerals that they could be potentially seeking. However having a fresh safer options on you, is far more preferable. What ever dog you have, it’s vitally important that dogs have the option to drink whilst they are out. Dogs with anxiety or ones that find some experiences outside stressful, often drink more water. Water is also another resource you can use as a reward for recall, as we all know if we are thirsty having a drink feels good.

Dogs, like humans, require adequate hydration to maintain their health. During walks, especially in warm weather, dogs can quickly become dehydrated due to panting and physical exertion. According to PetMD, dogs should have access to clean water at all times, especially during physical activities like walks. Providing water during walks helps regulate their body temperature, supports digestion, and ensures overall well-being. It's best to avoid letting your dog drink from unknown water sources, as puddles and stagnant water can harbor harmful bacteria and parasites, leading to illnesses. The amount of water a dog needs during a walk varies based on size, age, and activity level, but as a general rule, offer small amounts of water every 15-20 minutes during exercise. Allow your dog to rest and drink water every 15-20 minutes, especially during longer walks or hikes, to maintain hydration and prevent exhaustion.

Dogs easily get dehydrated when walking to the park or doing other strenuous activities, particularly during the summer months. Water is important for humans, but your pooch needs it too. Before going on a walk or hike, encourage your dog to drink to prepare for the trip ahead. Making sure your pup is well hydrated can be challenging, especially if you’re dealing with a more picky drinker. But it’s important to pause and allow them to drink clean water once every 60 to 90 minutes. Water for dogs on walks is crucial, specifically during long hikes at higher elevations, as well as during the warmer months of the year. Bringing a water bottle for you and your dog is a must during trips and long walks. Dogs can get dehydrated quickly outdoors, so always provide them with plenty of clean water.
