It’s totally normal for some dogs to lack play drive and to need to ‘learn’ to play. This can be for various reasons - some dogs lack confidence, some dogs missed out on littermate play as a puppy so they aren’t sure how to play as an adult, sometimes the toy just isn’t motivating enough. My dog is not interested in playing help. My 2 year old has lost interest in playing with all her toys. She barely plays anymore. The only thing she likes playing is for me to chase her around the house. She’s not motivated by play or toys so she’s just not engaged. I tried giving her treats whenever she touches her toy, but now she goes and sits next to her toy to get the treat. She’s physically fine - I’ve been to the vet several times and there’s nothing physically wrong with her.
