It's an exhilarating scent-based Dog sport, where your canine companion learns to locate a specific person by following their unique scent trail.
It taps into your dog's natural hunting instincts and enhance the bond between you, in a controlled, enjoyable way.
Their nose really dominates their sensory world and focuses a large part of their brain on the task, blocking out other distractions.
Simply put, a dog can't be unhappy and nervous when sniffing, their brains are biologically wired to be happy when sniffing and switch off the stress.
In Mantrailing, We teach them how to harness that amazing sense of smell and turn it into a fun activity for you to do together as a sport.
Mantrailing is suitable for all dogs, regardless of age, breed or physical capability as each Dog works one at a time, ensuring a tailored experience.
It's a low impact activity on both Dog and Handler.
Training dogs to find people for fun.
At A Pawsitive Step, we offer specialised Mantrailing dog training in Malmesbury and surround areas.

Mantrailing is teaching your dog to follow the scent of a missing person until they find them. Imagine Search and Rescue dogs searching for missing people in the mountains or police dogs finding runaway criminals. Your dog will learn to find a missing person across a variety of terrains and distances. We only ask that your dog is friendly towards other dogs and people. Mantrailing can be done either way. Appropriate for all dogs able to do an hour-long walk.

Mantrailing is an exciting new dog sport that teaches you and your dog to search and find a “missing person.”
The training of a Mantrailing dog focuses on teaching the dog to discriminate between the scent of the target human and multiple other interesting scents also in the environment.
It is completely unique dog training in many ways and can help with a number of unwanted behaviours as it allows the dog to make the right choices independently and will be much more satisfying to them.
Mantrailing allows you to harness your dogs natural ability to sniff.
Every dog can excel at Mantrailing and you can learn a new skill together.
Mantrailing is one of the few sports where the dog can work freely and the handler can enjoy watching their dog work.
The sport is fully accessible to all people and dogs , regardless of age, breed, or disability.
All breeds can join in from the smallest Chihuahua to the largest Great Dane.
All dogs of all ages can join in from puppies to seniors.

Mantrailing is all about having fun with your dog. Mantrailing is all about letting the dog be in charge; we’re just along for the ride. You can’t see or smell the trail, only your dog can! So trying to second-guess won’t work. Trust your dog—they know what they’re doing! After all, they were born with this ability. Mantrailing is all about keeping your dog motivated, and that means finding the reward that gets them excited. Mantrailing is about letting your dog think for themselves and work independently. It’s not about control or obedience, so we don’t want to over-command or micromanage the process. Mantrailing is all about laying a strong foundation.
