When in doubt, the safest solution is to consult your vet. IF IN DOUBT CALL THE VETS 01759 373611 AND SPEAK TO THEM FOR ADVICE ON WHETHER YOUR PET SHOULD BE SEEN. If your pet is having trouble breathing or is making alarming noises when they breathe, you need to visit your vets immediately. Severe pain – This is always an emergency. If your pet is vocalising, panting, limping badly or exhibiting other signs of severe pain, do not delay- get to a vet immediately. Fits – Although a single fit is not likely to be life threatening, it may be the result of epilepsy or heart problems or, sometimes, poisoning with potentially fatal consequences and it is best to get this checked. Poisoning– If you know your pet has eaten poison don’t wait for any effects to start, visit the vet immediately and take any packaging with you as it will help the vet.

Would you take your dog to the vet on the first onset of odd symptoms or do you give them a day to see if they feel better on their own. He did eventually eat his dog biscuit but still looks very lethargic. If I can't, I'll have to take him to the animal hospital that is open on the weekends. I agree and am trying to get him in to the vet this afternoon.

When in doubt about your pet’s health, reach out to your local veterinarian and get their advice. They may advise a visit just to make sure everything’s okay. If you notice vomiting in addition to any other symptoms like lethargy or diarrhea, contact your veterinarian immediately. There are some problems that require immediate attention, if you notice any of these symptoms, contact your veterinarian as quickly as possible. Trust your instincts, and always reach out to your local vet if you have questions or concerns. It may be tempting to wait until your pet’s symptoms worsen to avoid a big veterinary bill, however, many times waiting too long can lead to higher bills and may put your pet at greater risk of pain and even death. Skipping one meal is probably okay, especially if they are in a new environment, but not eating for two days is a sign of potential trouble.
