I was wondering if a dog whistle would stop the dog from continuing to bite my dog if it happened again. Could a dog whistle prevent a future attack.

A dog whistle is no proper tool to stop an actual attack. The dog will simply ignore it. Other methods like pepper spray or a loud horn that can actually stop a dog will also effect the child. This is especially true for inaudible whistles or sound emmiters that produce a frequency too high for most adults to hear. Children may still be able to hear them and even if you cannot perceive the sound the sound pressure can still damage your own ear.

Dogs are usually very good at telegraphing their intent through body language. A happy, relaxed dog has floppy ears, lolling tongue, and a wagging tail along with a curious attitude. An aggressive dog tends to not have much interest in the world around it, is always on the alert and visually scanning or staring, ears are up and listening, and keeps its tail stiff. The dog might growl or snap, or bark in a lower register without stopping. Fearful dogs are also at risk of becoming aggressive as they have a strong need to defend themselves.
A whistle with a sharp or ultrasonic tone can be effective in shutting down a dog that's engaging in aggressive behavior. Dogs have sensitive hearing and a whistle with a sharp or ultrasonic tone can be effective.
It's always best to avoid an aggressive dog and stay out of its line of sight whenever possible. An aggressive dog reads your body language and scents the same as any other dog, but an aggressive dog is far more likely to act on the information than not.
Carry Dog Deterrents Sometimes dogs attack no matter what precautions are taken and a dog deterrent is necessary. A deterrent can be anything from a dog treat to a spray and is easily carried on the body. Using a deterrent can make all the difference between a minor and major injury and most deterrents are easily carried around the body.

Dogs do not like loud noises, and the piercing sound of a whistle could be enough to stop a dog in attack mode in its tracks. Carrying a whistle when you walk or run is a good way to be prepared in the unlikely event you stumble upon a dog ready to bite. A whistle can also help protect you from dangerous people, as it can alert others nearby that you need help. If an angry animal starts to approach you, take a few treats and throw them far away from you.
Spraying an attacking dog with water will not hurt the animal, but will get him to back off. Using a series of loud, firm commands can help you divert their attention and avoid dog bites. It is important to keep your voice clear and show no signs of fear. Try repeating the following words: Stop Off Down Come Leave it No Back.
