The best time to visit the park depends on what you want to do.
If you want to watch the sunset than the best time is sunset.
If you want to do a ranger lead program or see the exibits in the visitors center than you want to go at the hours those things as offered.
We have always felt that the best time to visit the park is early in the morning.
If we are visiting Cades Cove we are there at daylight when they open the gate.
We find that the animals are more active early in the morning and we usually have about 2 to 3 hours before the crowds really start to arrive.
The roads, hiking trails etc don't seem to get really busy until after 10 or 11 AM.
My experience anywhere in the GSMNP is that up and out early is the best time for several reasons- fewer people, wildlife is active and it is nice and cool.
Cades Cove- sunrise or a hour or so before sunset.
I prefer Cades Cove either very early in the morning or after 6:00 PM in the evening.
Personally, we like to get out into the park as early as possable.
But, there are some places thats best visited in the morning.....examples are Cades Cove and Roaring Fork motor trail.
We found that people start heading off to Gatlingburg & Pigeon Forge around 3 pm.
It's much more enjoyable then.

The peak season for theme parks in the UK is typically during the summer months, especially in July and August when schools are on summer break. Visiting during the off-peak season, such as spring or autumn, can offer a more relaxed and less crowded experience. Weekdays tend to be less crowded than weekends, as many people visit theme parks on weekends and during school holidays. If possible, consider scheduling your visit on a weekday to avoid the larger crowds. You’ll likely have shorter wait times for rides and attractions, allowing you to make the most of your time at the park. However, if you can only go on a weekend, don’t let that discourage you. With proper planning and arriving early, you can still have a great time at the theme park. Checking the weather forecast beforehand will help you dress appropriately and ensure that you have an enjoyable visit regardless of the weather conditions. It’s essential to consider the weather forecast when planning your visit. During the summer months, the weather in the UK can be unpredictable, with a mix of sunny days and occasional rain showers. In colder months, especially during the off-peak season, be prepared for chilly temperatures.

When it comes to selecting the best day for your park visit, understanding park visitation patterns is key. Opting for off-peak park visitation can offer a more serene and enjoyable experience. Consider planning your trip on weekdays, particularly Tuesdays through Thursdays, when visitor numbers are typically lower compared to bustling weekends. Selecting the best day to visit a national park is essential for a rewarding and enjoyable journey. Be mindful of park visitation patterns, opt for off-peak visits when possible, and consider the convenience of weekday park visits. Factor in Park Attractions Wait Times: Anticipate potential park attractions wait times during peak hours. Arrive early to beat the crowds and make the most of your time exploring the park's wonders. Consider Park Capacity Management: Some parks have limited capacity, especially during peak seasons. Arriving early or visiting during off-peak hours can help you avoid any capacity-related challenges.
