As dogs get older, they can be happy doing much more sedentary activities. Being out in the great outdoors getting the smells, the sun, and the air on her are allowing her to experience things and to enjoy them. Some if they are becoming less visual due to age related issues can do similar things too. Some with arthritis causing them to have more difficulty getting around will do this too. If she's still eating well, comfortable, pretty mobile and otherwise seeming to be doing ok for her age - then this behavior of sitting outside and smelling the air is her new most entertaining thing. When some of the other senses seem to be not as sharp, their sense of smell gets heightened and she may be more focused on this. This new activity is one that is giving her peace and entertainment.
