After removing the tick, the body site should be observed for several weeks.
Local redness may occur shortly after the procedure is done.
Don’t panic right away.
This may be an allergic reaction to the substances in the tick’s saliva that prevent blood from clotting.
The erythema migratory rash, characteristic for Lyme infection, has a specific appearance and usually appears in average 7-10 days after removing the tick.
You should see your doctor as soon as possible as this is a typical symptom of Lyme disease.
Do the same in case of noticing other disturbing symptoms, such as fever, chill, fatigue, nervousness, insomnia, muscle and body pain.

If you pulled a tick from your skin, clean the bite area with soap and water. Check the site of the bite for a rash and keep close watch on your health for 30 days after the bite. See a doctor if you develop a fever, a rash, or flu-like symptoms. Once you have removed the tick from yourself or a family member, you can throw the tick away in your normal garbage. Sometimes it may be helpful to keep the tick so it can be identified by your doctor or another health professional should you develop any symptoms. If you choose to do this, place the tick in a small jar or sealed plastic bag with rubbing alcohol, which will both kill and preserve it. If you are concerned about a tick bite, contact your health care provider.

Once you have removed the tick, wash the wound site and your hands with soap and water, and apply rubbing alcohol or antiseptic to the site. If you have found a tick on you, it’s a sign there may be others. Do a careful tick check. Observe the bite site over the next two weeks for any signs of an expanding red rash or flu-like symptoms. Consult with your PCP about sending your tick to a lab, such as TickCheck or TickEncounter, to be tested for pathogens. In general, the CDC does not recommend taking antibiotics prophylactically after tick bites to prevent tickborne diseases. However, in certain circumstances, a single dose of doxycycline after a tick bite may lower your risk of Lyme disease. Consider talking to your healthcare provider if you live in an area where Lyme disease is common to discuss prophylactic doxycycline and other options. If you have a suspicious rash or your symptoms persist, please seek medical care immediately.
