Do not use petroleum jelly, heat, nail polish, or other substances to try and make the tick detach from the skin.
This may agitate the tick and force infected fluid from the tick into the skin.
You can also remove the mouthparts with tweezers.
If you cannot remove the mouthparts easily with tweezers, leave them alone.
Dispose of the live tick by taking one of these steps: place it in a sealed container; wrap it tightly in tape; flush it down the toilet; or put it in alcohol.
After removing the tick, thoroughly clean the bite area and your hands with soap and water, rubbing alcohol, or hand sanitizer.
Do not crush the tick with your fingers.
Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close as possible to the skin's surface.
If you don't have fine-tipped tweezers, regular tweezers can be used to remove attached ticks.

Drown it in a container with rubbing alcohol.
Rubbing alcohol can be used to clean the area around the tick bite.
Clean the bite area and your hands again with rubbing alcohol or soap and water.
You can use bug spray made for ticks and check yourself for ticks after being outside.
Does salt remove a tick There isn’t a lot of evidence that salt or salt water can remove a tick.
Using petroleum jelly isn’t a safe way to remove a tick.
Some people think coating a tick in petroleum jelly will suffocate it.
But covering it in this substance can actually make the tick stay embedded in your skin for longer.
It can also make it harder to remove, as petroleum jelly is slippery.

The application of petroleum jelly, fingernail polish, 70% isopropyl alcohol, or a hot kitchen match failed to induce detachment of adult American dog ticks attached for either 12 to 15 hours or three to four days.
Use of forceps or protected fingers enabled satisfactory removal of 29 adult American dog ticks without leaving the mouthparts or attachment cement in the host skin.
It is recommended that the tick be grasped as close to the skin as possible with curved forceps.
Pull straight up with steady even pressure.
Disinfect bite site before and after tick removal.
