To permanently get rid of ticks on your dog, stop ticks from biting your pet by using a tick treatment that either kills or repels them if they attach themselves. There are different types of treatments, such as spot-on treatments and tablets. Ask your vet for the best tick treatment. Be careful, never use dog tick medicine on cats or vice versa. Some dog tick treatments contain chemicals that are toxic to cats, and can even be fatal to them. If you're taking your dog on holiday with you, ask your vet about preventative treatments needed to protect your pet from ticks, sandflies, heartworms and tapeworms. Treatments may be different depending on where you're going, so it's best to talk to your vet well before going on holiday. Some treatments might need to be started before your holiday. If signs of illness appear, talk to your vet and let them know your dog has been abroad.

Using a pair of tweezers is the most common and effective way to remove a tick. You should use fine-point tweezers, to avoid tearing the tick and spreading possible infections into the bite area. Spread your dog’s fur, then grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible. Very gently, pull straight upward, in a slow, steady motion. Another option that is even easier to master is the use of a tick removal hook, like the Tick Tornado or the Tick Stick. You simply put the prongs on either side of the tick and twist upward. After you’ve removed the tick, make sure to wash your hands thoroughly, clean the bite site with rubbing alcohol, and rinse the tweezers or tool with disinfectant. Never remove a tick with your fingers—it’s not only ineffective, but the squeezing may also further inject infectious material.

To get rid of ticks on your dog, you can try several methods. Twisting them off your dog is the best removal method. You may ask your vet for further advice. Ticks are known to be repelled by citrus flavours & odours. Juice from a freshly squeezed orange or lemon can be lightly rubbed onto your dog’s fur before taking them out for a walk or short trips. A thorough bath in a tub of water will wash away most of the ticks from your pet’s body. Using a gentle pet shampoo along with thorough brushing will also help remove most ticks from the pet. Always keep your house and nearby surroundings clean as a dirty environment attracts ticks. Some of the natural repellents are rose geranium oil and Tickweed which works efficiently in tick removal.

To permanently get rid of ticks on your dog, you can use the following methods. Detergent can kill ticks on your pet with any sort of dishwashing liquid. Apply a generous amount of soap on your pet, more than you would for a typical bath. Allow your pet to soak in the soap for 15-30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and let your pet dry indoors. Eucalyptus oil acts as a tick killer as well as tick repellant. Spray a solution of 4 ounces of pure or distilled water with 20 drops of eucalyptus oil on yourself and your pet. Essential oils not only smell great but are also natural tick repellents. Ticks despise the odor of lemon, orange, cedar, cinnamon, lavender, peppermint, and rose geranium and will avoid clinging to anything that smells like them. You can make a spray using any combination of these oils. Neem oil is used as a natural tick repellent and removal agent. Applying a drop or two of neem oil straight to the tick will cause it to detach itself fast from the skin. Keep your lawn trimmed short and properly hydrated.
