Muzzles are useful preventative tools to keep dogs from engaging in dangerous behavior with their mouths — and that doesn’t mean just biting. Muzzles can be especially helpful for dogs who like to eat non-food items. So, next time you see a dog at the park wearing a muzzle, consider this: he may not be aggressive, he may just eat poop. Just because a dog is wearing a muzzle doesn’t necessarily mean he’s bitten someone in the past. In fact, many caretakers use muzzles as a preventive measure to ensure their dog and the people around him stay safe. Basket muzzle: Basket muzzles are ideal for walks, outings to the dog park, or recovering from surgery. They can be worn for longer periods of time and allow your pupper to pant, drink water, and even accept small treats. Any dog can wear a muzzle, in addition to protecting your pup from grabbing garbage, or eating poo, muzzles are safe, effective tools that can help even the friendliest dogs get through stressful situations safely.

My german shepherd hasn't been to the dog park in 9 months because he got into some fights. There would be days when he would get along with everyone and then some when fights would be started. When a new dog would enter the park, he would run/charge the gate to meet newcomer, that would scare the other dog. My vet said if he is aggressive to one dog and then it should be to all dogs, its not. But back to original question, would it be bad dog park etiquette for the muzzle, I don't want to keep him from playing at the park.

For dogs that can become aggressive or overly excited in a social atmosphere, it can be helpful to use items like a muzzle or dog repellant spray as a preventative measure. Bringing these items along, at least for the initial visits, can be a great way to gauge how well your dog behaves at a specific dog park. It is important to recognize aggressive behavior in other dogs while at the park, but it’s also important to be aware of your own dogs’ behavior. Knowing your dog’s personality can be a helpful attribute for choosing which dog park to visit, as well as figuring out the necessary steps prior to your visit. Before simply choosing the closest available, it’s important to take a moment and assess what would best suit your pet. The most important rule of etiquette while visiting a dog park in Chicago involves being aware of your dog and the interaction with others.
