Olive oil, mineral oil or coconut oil—oils are relatively safe to use, and olive oil can kill ear mites by smothering them though it takes many weeks to clear ear mites with this method. And, speaking of ear mites, ear mites are fairly common in kittens and occasionally found in puppies but are quite uncommon in adult cats and dogs. Avoid over-the-counter ear mite medications as they are often irritating to the ear canal and are ineffective against bacteria or yeast. In general, home remedies for cleaning ears are relatively safe; however, it is best to stick with commercial ear cleaning solutions which are designed to break up wax and evaporate from the ear canal to leave it dry. Pour the solution into the canal, rub the base of the pet’s ear, allow your pet to shake his head and wipe out any excess fluid or debris with a cotton ball. Make sure to seek veterinary care for your pet if she has signs of an ear infection or if home remedies do not help within 2-3 days.

To get rid of the ear mites, start with the cleaning process.
Then use an ear mite product such as our AniForte Ear Mite Oil.
This product will kill the mites by making it impossible for them to breathe.
For a medium-sized dog, add 2 drops into each ear.
After 12 hours clean the ear again, but this time with just the simple ear cleaner.
This will get the dead ear mites out.
You then repeat this process for 10 days and your pet should be ear mite free.
Don’t forget to also check and clean the environment where your pet sleeps such as their bed or sofa.

To treat ear mites in dogs, the ears must be thoroughly cleaned and medicated.
First, a dog’s ears are cleaned with an ear cleanser.
Ear cleansers remove debris to allow medication to work better and are used once daily until the mites and infection are gone.
Topical and oral flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives are the main treatment for ear mites.
Although these products are not directly labeled to be used for ear mites, they are highly effective.
A single treatment is typically effective at getting rid of the ear mites.
Ear mites can take up to 30 days to be fully eliminated from the dog’s ear canals.
Following treatment, pet parents should bring their dog back to the veterinarian for a repeat ear cytology to check that the ear mites are gone.
If the dog is still having symptoms or the ear cytology shows ear mites or infection, another round of treatment may be prescribed.
