Tick eggs are tiny, often reddish-brown or dark, and are laid in clusters. They may be found in secluded areas such as under furniture, near baseboards, or in pet bedding. Tick eggs are laid in clusters. Adult ticks are about the size of a pencil eraser, while younger nymph ticks can be as tiny as a pinhead. Ticks can range from a pinhead to the size of a pea, depending on their growth stage. Ticks are often drawn to dark, humid areas. They may be found in carpeting, pet bedding, baseboards, behind furniture, or small crevices.

What do tick nests look like.
A tick “nest” isn’t really a nest at all.
Rather than making a nest, female ticks opt to lay their eggs anywhere they please.
This is usually a soft spot, such as a plot of soil or within blades of grass.
What might be called a “nest” is simply a mass of sticky eggs.
Tick nests may contain hundreds of eggs but are usually only an inch at most in diameter.
The eggs have a murky, orb-like appearance and stick together until they are ready to hatch, which can occur anywhere from weeks to months after the eggs are laid.
Tick nests can generally be found outdoors, near ground level.

Ticks don’t actually build nests to lay eggs in. Instead, what you might spot is an egg mass, says Marc Potzler, a board-certified entomologist and technical services manager for Ehrlich Pest Control. The egg mass, which is usually black or red and shiny, looks “like misplaced caviar, especially in shape and texture,” says board-certified entomologist Frank Meek, technical services manager at Rollins. Each egg is about the size of a period, Potzler says. Stuck together, the eggs are no larger than one inch, or the size of a quarter. The eggs will be laid on top of the ground, often nestled on top of soil, Potzler says. Ticks usually lay their eggs outside, typically near a trail where deer or other animals tend to roam, Potzler says.
