I usually take my dog out as soon as I wake up. I’m talking pajamas, no bra, glasses, not fully awake. There are a few grassy patches in the parking lot of my apartment. But I never quite take her on a walk before I go to work because I’m not exactly in the state for it. Would it be cruel to take her out after I’m ready for my day. I shower in the evening so I usually only take 15-20min to get ready anyway. This way I’d be fully dressed and could take her on a walk. I just don’t want her bladder to hurt for it.

Much like humans, dogs often need to relieve themselves in the morning. As such, if you want to keep your floors clean, you should take them outside when you first wake up. However, while “first thing” may be convenient for Dog Owners, the time slot doesn’t always align with our canines’ needs. In fact, studies suggest that 10am is the magic hour to walk your dog. They’ve had time to digest their breakfast. By walking your pooch at 10am, you’re granting them a few hours to digest those sunrise munchies before pounding the pavement.

Yes, you should walk a dog as soon as they wake up. Like humans, dogs often need to use the bathroom first thing in the morning. Taking a dog for a walk first thing in the morning prevents accidents, especially among senior dogs who have less control over their bowels or bladder. Dogs usually have pent-up energy from sleeping all night and will be itching to run around and play. Taking a dog for a walk in the morning allows them to burn off some extra energy, resulting in a more relaxed and happier dog for the rest of the morning. You should take a dog outside for a walk around the block briefly to do their business, but wait a while after breakfast for a long walk.
