Dogs don’t have or need an alpha in their human family pack either. Given that this theory has been debunked, no dog walker needs to assert themselves as the pack leader and no dog should go on pack walks. Dogs hate it. They’re miserable. Pack walks are a thing but not anything I recommend for any dog. They are stressed in the van with so many dogs, then stressed on the walk and then back in the van, stressed again for the 45 minute to and hour or more, drop off. Are they tired when they get home? You bet but it’s tired from stress, not fun. That’s a big difference.

Dogs are pack animals so they are social creatures by nature. As descendants of wolves, dogs instinctually are drawn to packs and thrive in social groups. This pack mentality translates well to dogs walking in a group, or walk pack, as many pups love to go out and explore with a furry friend or two in tow. While some dogs are the exception to this rule and need to be solo pups due to a variety of reasons, many dogs will experience the benefits of pack walking. Is it good for dogs to walk in a pack? Yes! Dogs are social animals and will experience dog pack walking. Walks in general are very rewarding experiences for dogs, so take your dogs for a walk to let them bond and fall into their pack.
