Our Newfie mix is almost 14 years old. We’ve never had a dog live to this age. Ours is down to a 10-15 minute slow walk around the neighborhood. She likes to sit on the back porch and watch birds etc. If you have a very old dog, how long do you take them for walks at this point?

The amount of exercise a dog needs ultimately depends on the dog. Puppies and senior dogs have different exercise needs. To find out specifically how much exercise your individual dog should have per day, consult your vet. But for dogs the world over, a good walk, or walks, every day can help to keep your dog mentally and physically healthy. Remember to always consult your vet for the most accurate advice, as your dog may have needs that aren’t covered in our calculator. If you’re considering a 13 year old dog, they would be classified as 11+ years.
