Younger dogs have more energy and, in general, will need more exercise than dogs who are middle-aged and seniors. Seniors, 9 years or older, may have arthritis, muscle atrophy, or other diseases that lower their stamina. Most dogs can tolerate a daily 20–30-minute walk if they have a relatively good body condition. It’s important to look for signs that your dog is tiring on her walk and not push her beyond her physical limits. If she starts to slow down about 25–30 minutes into the walk, she may be getting tired. Take your dog for a walk and monitor her energy level. If you provide both physical and mental outlets for your pup, she will overall be healthier and mentally more well-balanced. Try to have your dog engage in at least 10–15 minutes of continuous activity every day. Aiming for a 10–15 minute walk a day can be a good starting point.

Our Newfie mix is almost 14 years old. We’ve never had a dog live to this age. If you have a very old dog, how long do you take them for walks at this point? Ours is down to a 10-15 minute slow walk around the neighborhood.
