Don't take your puppy out at all until their last round of shots, not even the front or back yard. I've seen some online resources saying a week after the 2nd round of shots, sidewalks are ok. I'm in a high risk Parvo area. The vet said no yards, they also specified no private fenced yards.

Puppies benefit from going outside as soon as possible to start getting used to the big wide world. Your puppy can go in the garden straight away – provided it’s secure. Make sure there are no holes or broken bits of fence that your puppy could sneak under or through. Reduce the risk of disease and clear your garden of any fox or cat poo before you let your puppy outside. If you have a garden, you can start toilet training your puppy to go outdoors straight away. You should wait until after your puppy has had their second vaccination before taking them out for a walk. Puppies are generally considered to be ‘safe’ two weeks after they have had their second round of injections. If your puppy was vaccinated at 8 weeks, again at 10 weeks, they will be ready at 12 weeks old.

Puppies need to toilet regularly and should be taken outside: When they wake up, Before bed, After every meal, After playtime or exercise, After any excitement, for example visitors to the home, Before you leave them and when you come back. Then every 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the puppy’s age. You'll be more successful if you actively supervise your dog. When you begin toilet training you need to give your dog plenty of opportunities to go in an appropriate place. Times to look out for these signs are after naps, after feeding and after they’ve been left alone. Continue taking your dog outside and reward them with lots of praise when they go and eventually they'll let you know when they need to go outside to toilet. Dogs don't have full bladder capacity until they are approximately 12 months of age.

Puppies can go outside sooner than you might think—even as early as 8 weeks old—there are just some steps to take first. When Can Puppies Go Outside for the First Time, it depends on the pup and the veterinarian, but your vet may give the okay for your pup to venture outside beginning at 8 weeks. While her primary series of shots won't be completed until around 12-16 weeks, you can take her outside to potty and begin to socialize her safely. If you're tired of throwing away soiled puppy pads, Evans suggests carrying your puppy outside finding a secluded space for potty time, avoiding feces from other dogs to minimize disease risk, but still being able to practice potty training. Short trips outdoors also give your dog the chance to sniff the air and get used to a different environment while staying safe.
