To use the calculator, you’ll need to know your dog’s ideal weight.
This is what you believe your pet should weigh.
You’ll also need to know the number of calories in the specific dog food you’re feeding him.
The calculator’s formula uses a dog’s metabolic weight to suggest an approximate serving size.
The Dog Food Calculator was designed for adult dogs only… not for puppies.
Small breeds are considered adults at about 9 to 12 months of age.
And medium breeds at about 12 to 14 months.
However, large and giant breeds shouldn’t be fed as adults until they reach around 1 to 2 years — depending upon the breed.
In general, small to medium dogs are considered seniors at about seven years of age.
However, larger breeds reach senior status much sooner — some as early as five.
Once you’ve entered your dog’s ideal weight and activity level, you’ll know the number of calories per day.
However, to convert calories into something you can use, you’ll need to enter the number of calories in your dog’s food.
Start with the package’s feeding instructions — or the amount suggested by our calculator.
And be sure to weigh your dog every few weeks.
Then, simply adjust that suggested serving size up or down to reach and maintain your pet’s ideal weight.

Puppies between 3 – 6 weeks old can start on our weaning paste, which is only intended as a supplement to the mother's milk. They should be allowed to suckle first then offer the weaning paste. After 6 weeks, you can start introducing our puppy food which is still very fine and a simple, bland food. By the time they reach 4 months, you can start introducing the normal formulas.
Puppy Feeding Guidelines include Dog Weight - Puppy Feeding, with a daily recommendation of 4-6% of their body weight.
For example, a 5kg puppy should be fed 200 to 300g, a 10kg puppy should be fed 400 to 600g, a 15kg puppy should be fed 600 to 900g.
Adult dogs are a lot easier to cater for, and their feeding guidelines include Dog Weight - Adult Dog Feeding, with a daily recommendation of 2-3% of their body weight.
For example, a 5kg adult dog should be fed 100 to 150g, a 10kg adult dog should be fed 200 to 300g, a 15kg adult dog should be fed 300 to 450g.
Kittens should be fed 4-6% of their growing body weight, which is the same guideline as puppies.

Our feeding guide helps to calculate a guide amount per day, however, each dogs metabolism and requirements can be so different depending on each dog's age, training, exercise, age, health and allergies etc that your dog may not require as much as stated in our feeding guide. A 20Kg dog doing moderate daily activity (1-3hrs off lead) would usually be fed 243g dry per day or 756g wet. A 7Kg dog walking less than 1hour would usually be fed 96g dry per day or 297g wet. If mixing 75% dry and 25% wet then feed 72g dry (96x0.75) and 74.25g wet (297x0.25) per day. It is best if the daily feeding amount is spread across several small meals throughout the day. The recommended amount may seem small but our food is very nutritious. When transitioning over from another food, do so gradually over the course of at least two weeks. If your dog has a weight problem then increase/decrease the daily feeding amount slightly as appropriate (we suggest 10%) and monitor their weight over the course of a few weeks until a healthy weight is reached and re-adjust the daily feed to maintain this.

For an adult dog, we advise feeding between 2% to 3% of their body weight per day of healthy, raw food. For example an adult dog weighing 10kg may require 200g – 300g per day. Dog’s Weight Food per day 1 – 5 kg 25 – 125 g 5 – 15 kg 125 – 375 g 15 – 25 kg 375 – 625 g 25 – 35 kg 625 – 875 g 35 – 45 kg 875 – 1125 g. Puppies need plenty of energy to support healthy growth and development. This means that many puppies will require 5-10% of their body weight to be fed in raw food per day. Puppy’s Weight 0-5 Months 5-12 Months 1 – 5 kg 90 – 450 g 50 – 250 g 5 – 15 kg 450 – 1350 g 250 – 750 g 15 – 25 kg 1350 – 2250 g 750 – 1250 g 25 – 35 kg 2250 – 3150 g 1250 – 1750 g 35 – 45 kg 3150 – 4050 g 1750 – 2250 g. The amount of food needed gradually reduces, reaching around 5% of their bodyweight by 6 months of age with a view to reaching the adult maintenance level of 2-3% of their body weight. Most dogs will be considered senior at around 8 years old, however larger breeds should make the swap to senior food at around 6 years of age. An approximate guideline for feeding your senior dog is 2-3% of their weight, daily – same amounts as for adult dogs.
