You'll usually need 2 or more GCSEs at grades 9 to 3 for a level 2 course.
There are no set entry requirements but it may help you to get in if you have some GCSEs, usually including English and maths, or equivalent, for an intermediate apprenticeship.
You could take a private training course to get some of the skills and knowledge needed in this job.
The Pet Industry Federation has accredited some organisations to deliver professional training.

Dog groomers don’t need a license to perform their job. Similarly, there are no licences needed for pet grooming establishments. However, you will need public liability insurance as a groomer. This will protect you if a member of the public is accidentally injured, or if their property is damaged by you or the animals in your care. You will also need Care, Custody, and Control which will protect you should an animal become ill, injured, or pass away whilst in your care. There are no specific qualifications you need to become a dog groomer, but a relevant course will give you the knowledge to stand out from the crowd.

There are no specific licences that apply to pet grooming establishments. However, as with most businesses there are relevant legislations to be aware of - especially since you will be working with animals. The Animal Welfare Act brings together and modernises previous welfare legislation and ensures greater protection for all animals under human care or supervision in England and Wales, which means that you will be responsible for the welfare of any animals you groom while they are in your care. Although, be aware that if you use copyright music in your business, even just background music from a radio in your salon or mobile van, then you will need a Music Licence from PPL PRS, which can be purchased online.
