Some dogs really don't like being told what to do. One of the traits that varies massively between breeds is stubborness – some dogs are happy to do what they are told, while others will only listen to their owner when it suits them. The gorgeous Afghan Hound is the supermodel of the dog world - and just as aloof as a millionaire catwalk star. In short, they think they own their human. The Akita was bred as a hunting dog in its native Japan, it's an intelligent breed but notoriously beligerent - they will simply walk away if they don't fancy doing what they are told. The Shiba Inu is well known for being very difficult to train, even when they are though, there's no way of knowing if they will bother putting their training into practice. The smallest dog in the world is also one of the most stubborn, the Chihuahua needs plenty of patience - or just an acceptance that stubborness is part of this breed's charm.

The 80 to 90-pound Akita is a gorgeous pooch, but it is the most stubborn, according to dog owners and experts. In fact, this Japanese hunting pup has been known to just walk away when you are trying to train them. However, once you get them to trust you, they will be your loyal sidekick for life. These dogs may be less active or easily distracted, or just have an independent mind that makes them more difficult to train than others. This doesn't mean they are a bad choice as a pet, but they may be better suited to owners who aren't into training. If you choose a stubborn breed as your best furry furiend, you should be prepared to spend a lot of time training, or get them enrolled in an obedience class to let a professional help you get through to your thick-headed doggo.
