Even the toughest dogs can be helped with reactive and aggressive dog training at Barx Parx. If your dog is displaying reactive behavior, it’s recommended to seek the help of a professional dog trainer or behaviorist who can help you identify the cause of the reactivity and develop a plan to address it. Dogs may display reactive behavior for a variety of reasons, and the specific cause can vary depending on the individual dog and their environment. We use positive reinforcement training methods and the latest scientific animal behavior research to ensure that we don’t make the undesired behaviors worse. It’s important to note that reactive behavior in dogs can be dangerous and should be taken seriously.

Is 1 year of age too late to fix major reactivity issues.
I have read so often that prevention is really important and that the training that occurs between 8 and 12 weeks of age is going to shape the dogs life.
If there is hope, any advice would be welcome.
We first noticed the issues when we went to a puppy class, he was about 3.5 months old.
I feel very discouraged as I have failed over and over at improving this behavior.
I have basically tried variations of feeding him yummy treats and/or praise for being calm when seeing another dog at a distance (as other dogs are his biggest trigger).
I will take any advice on where to go from here, even if it is to become a hermit and never take my dog out of the backyard.

A common myth is that older dogs can't learn new behaviours, but this couldn't be further from the truth. You can teach any dog at any age how to settle. Many dog owners have successfully trained older dogs to manage and reduce reactivity, demonstrating that age should not be treated as a barrier to training. It really never is too late. I know I've already said this, but it is never too late to train your dog not to be reactive, or at least lessen their reactive tendencies. With the correct techniques, some much-needed consistency, and sometimes professional help, you can help your dog lead a calmer and more fulfilling life. The most important thing to remember is that every dog is unique and progress may vary, but with dedication, positive change is possible.
