Packing a dedicated bag or backpack for your dog filled with all the essential items your pet will need during your getaway. This should include their favourite toys, food and water bowls, lead (always include a spare one too), collar with ID tags, waste bags, coat for cold weather and any medications they may require. And don’t forget to include grooming products like Scrubbies dog shampoo and detangling spray so you can pamper them with their own doggie spa experience. Make your pet feel right at home by bringing along familiar bedding, blankets, or their favourite, cosy pet bed. Having their own familiar scent will help them feel more relaxed in their new surroundings, whether you’re staying in a hotel room or a vacation rental. Ensure you have an ample supply of your pet’s regular food for the duration of your trip, along with some extra treats for good behaviour or as rewards during outings. It’s also a good idea to pack some travel-friendly snacks for yourself and your pet to enjoy while on the go. Also, make sure to bring along a collapsible water bowl and a bottle of water for your dog as well as treats for the journey. Keep your pet entertained and engaged during your trip by bringing along their favourite toys, balls, frisbees, interactive games, or puzzle feeders.

First things first—don’t forget your dog’s food! Whether your dog eats dry kibble, wet food, or a special diet, bring enough food for the entire trip, plus a little extra in case of delays or longer-than-expected outings. If your dog has any favourite treats, be sure to pack those as well. Having their favourite snacks on hand will help them feel at home, especially in new places. You’ll also need to pack a water bowl for hydration during outings, and a food bowl for mealtime, with collapsible or portable travel bowls being a must for any dog holiday. Don’t forget your dog’s everyday essentials—leash, collar, and harness. It’s also important to bring your dog’s regular collar with ID tags, especially if you’re traveling to unfamiliar places. Make sure your dog has a comfy place to sleep, whether it’s their own bed or a familiar blanket. Dogs love their toys, and packing a few of their favourites can keep them entertained during the trip. You should also pack your dog’s brush, comb, nail clippers, and any other grooming supplies they may need. Additionally, include items like adhesive bandages, tweezers for tick removal, antiseptic wipes, and any medications your dog might need in a dog-friendly first aid kit. Bring plenty of poop bags to make sure you’re always ready to clean up after your dog, no matter where you go. If you’re traveling by car, a seat cover or a travel crate can help protect your vehicle and keep your dog safe during the journey.

Their favourite dog bed is always a good idea to take on any holiday - it’s your dog’s cosy and safe place, which provides a sense of security in unfamiliar surroundings. It’s also handy to have in the back of the car so that your dog can stretch out and snooze if you’ve got a long journey planned. Don’t forget to bring a supply of your dog’s food with you for the duration of your stay, and it’s always a good idea to take a bowl too. A towel is essential for wiping down paws before jumping back in the car or heading into your cabin. A cosy blanket they use at home is also a great essential, and like their dog bed, can give them a sense of security with familiar surroundings. Poo bags are a definite must whenever you leave the home, especially on holiday. Take plenty of poo bags with you for your stay, and ensure you’ve always got a few extra handy in your pocket or bag. A raincoat or jumper is handy to have, with unpredictable British weather, you can always count on the odd rain shower, so it’s always handy to have a raincoat to keep your pooch dry. Finally, always remember to pack any of your dog's medication whilst on holiday too, and consider packing a mini first aid box for the dog, with everything you need, from eyewash pods and tick tweezers to cleansing wipes and bandages for emergencies.

Although a dog bed is supplied, some owners prefer to bring their own to ensure their pet feels safe and comfy. Include everything on your list, from travel essentials to medication, food, treats and bowls; and poo bags, towels and toys – especially those ones they can’t live without! You’ll need to remember essential items such as food, medications, lead, bed/blankets, poo bags and toys. Pack enough food for the whole break, plus a little extra, just in case. A portable food bowl – depending on how far you’re travelling and whether you’re going to be out during meal times. A portable water bowl – handy for forest for walks or days out. Treats – particularly important if you are used to a specific brand or if you’re dog is on a special diet. Lead, collar/harness - Dogs are welcome throughout the Montagu Arms hotel except in The Terrace Restaurant, but must be kept on a lead at all times. Bed or Blanket – we can supply a bed but you might like to bring theirs or at least a blanket that is familiar, especially for those dogs that can become a bit anxious when away. Toys – If you know your dog likes a particular toy, chew, ball or puzzle bring it along. First aid kit - It can be particularly important when travelling to a new area or planning walks in unknown places to pack a canine first aid kit which might include a tick remover, bandages and antiseptic wipes, in case of any accidents. Portable crate – if your dog is crate-trained and is used to spending some downtime in their own safe space then bring it with to ensure they are happy and relaxed during your dog-friendly break in the New Forest.
