I’ve always wondered this—of course there is the innate enjoyment of being outside with the pack just at all, but what do dogs think walks are for. I have to assume that with alot of dogs, they think they are going ‘on patrol’ in the area around their den, and this is why you brought them with you. I think especially for dogs that don’t work regularly, they enjoy thinking of walks as a an important and neccesarry task they’re performing for the family.

Dogs are at increased risk of health problems, such as joint disease, obesity and stress-related disorders without regular exercise. If you can walk your dog even just a little bit more, not only will your dog reap the health benefits of regular exercise, but it will strengthen and enhance the bond between you and your dog. Regular walks are good for us, but in our busy lives, it’s easy for walks to slip by in a hurry, or be put off until tomorrow. We want to help people rediscover the joy in walking their dogs and appreciate those moments that are not only benefitting the dog and themselves physically, but also helping us de-stress and improving our mental health. Over a fifth believe it helps them get out and meet new people, while 15% say it encourages more talking time with the family and children. Research by natural dog food producer Forthglade showed that despite Brits not walking their dogs as often as they should, 96% of dog owners who participated in the study say that walking their dog makes them feel happy, helping them relax and unwind, resulting in them feeling positive and energised and strengthening their bond with their dog. Like humans, exercise is an important part of mental and physical wellbeing.

Dogs can bring happiness to any home.
A Gala Bingo survey found that 82% of pet owners are cheered up by their furry friends, all thanks to their excitable nature and cute wagging tails.
While watching our dogs enjoy themselves on a walk is enough to lift our mood — there is also the exercise aspect of it.
Exercise boosts the brain’s tryptophan levels.
This boost, in turn, increases the production of serotonin which is one of the feel-good chemicals produced by the body.
Add to that other mood-boosting elements such as fresh air, nature, and being with your beloved pal, and the end result is increased feelings of happiness.
The healthiest state of mind to be in.

Simply the oblivion of your pet to issues that are distressing in the world or the anxiety and stresses of your everyday life – and their never changing routine – can be reassuring and comforting. Everyday life can be stressful at almost every turn. But having a dog, who needs their daily walks, motivating you to take regular exercise, and who is always pleased to see you; or who is oblivious to the external pressures we’re all under and whose never changing routines bring comfort and reassurance – all these things deliver huge mental health benefits. Physical activity, especially when it is outdoors, releases endorphins in the brain that give you energy and positivity. It reduces stress and boosts your mood, whatever the unpredictable British weather throws at us. What makes us happy also makes our dogs happy, reinforcing that positivity and giving you simple opportunities for self-care. 82 per cent of those surveyed said that going on a dog walk allows them to escape from their daily life pressures and improves their mental health. Increased exercise, more time outdoors, and bonding time spent with their dogs all means owners are positively supporting both their physical health and mental health, as well as ensuring their four-legged family members are getting the exercise and mental stimulation they all need to be happy and healthy dogs.
