I had put some treats in the crate before she noticed, picked her up, put her in front of the crate, and as she started to eat the treats I gently pushed the back legs in, closed the gate, and sat next to her until she fell asleep. Sometimes she will self settle and other times she will bark or scratch the floor. Sometimes she stops and goes to sleep, and other times she is worked up that I pick her up and hold her for a few minutes so she calms down before I put her back in the crate.

If they have a build up of energy that isn’t being addressed with exercise and mental stimulation.
Your dog’s posture will tell you if they are having fun or stressed.
A stressed dog will be more tense and wide-eyed, and its tail will stay low and tucked even when stopping or pausing.
In this case, it is best to try and calm them down and consider what has caused their stress.
Even with joyful zoomies, the area in which they do it can be dangerous, particularly if they’re constantly skidding on laminate or hardwood floors or running into furniture.
If you think your dog will harm themselves in the house, instead of trying to stop the behaviour, just direct the behaviour outside instead or if not possible, a carpeted area.
You will be able to predict when the zoomies are likely to strike and make sure your dog is somewhere you can both enjoy them without any fear of injury.

Try using a favourite toy to engage in a game of tug of war to refocus his energy or attach a short lead to maintain better control during these spells. Increasing physical exercise or challenging your dog mentally is a great way of releasing some of that pent up energy before it’s channelled into one of these random bursts of energy. This is a great way of contending with an overly energetic young puppy. A good amount of breed appropriate exercise and mental stimulation is a great way of lessening the degree or frequency of zoomies.
