Dog breeds classed as being particularly high-energy include: Siberian huskies Kelpies Border collies Cattle dogs Australian shepherds Pointers Beagles Jack Russell terriers Springer spaniels. High-energy dogs given inadequate mental and physical stimulation can develop negative behaviours such as hyperactivity, anxiety, reactivity. High-energy breeds need one to two 30-60 minute brisk walks daily, with opportunities to run off-leash in safe areas. If your dog is toy-motivated, playing fetch with mouth-safe items such as frisbees or tennis balls is also a great way of tiring them out rapidly. Channelling your dog’s high energy into positive ‘work’ can bring both of you enjoyment, and really helps strengthen your pet-owner bond. There are many options available, depending on your interests and your dog’s natural preferences.

Owning an active dog like a Siberian Husky or a Border Collie will sometimes be a hassle, but if you give them the attention and exercise they need, they will be loyal, obedient and compassionate dogs to spend your time with. Siberian Huskies are popular thanks to their fluffy coats and goofy personalities. They talk, they listen, but most importantly, they love to run! Originally bred to run long distances, these pups can play for hours and even run circles around you if they don't get a long enough walk outside. Border Collies were bred to be herding dogs, meant for working on farms and ranches guarding sheep and other livestock from predators. Even though many now live in more domesticated settings, these lovable and cuddly pups still require a lot of exercise and time outside, and do best when they have a job to do. Don't mistake these pups as lazy due to their small size, they should be considered just as energetic as any pup on this list, like the Jack Russell Terrier. Vizsla can also stay active consistently for at least an hour and a half, and will often outlast you. Weimaraners were bred to be hunting dogs, and were chosen for their speed, dedication, and intelligence, and have energy that will last them hours when they are playing.

Last but possibly the most energetic dog, the Border Collie is a cross between the most extreme athlete trainer you will ever find and Einstein. Trainable, clever, active and highly driven, these are dogs who need to use their brains and their bodies to stay healthy and happy. Hill walking, fell running, long-distance walking or orienteering, agility, heelwork to music or CaniX (and ideally all of these!) will all get you moving together. Just be aware, the Border Collie doesn’t do rest days. They may be shaped like a velvet-covered concrete block, but the Stafford Bull Terrier can certainly move. People often forget they were active, working dogs and as such they love having a job to do that lets them be with their beloved owner every second of the day. With a Poodle to fit any sized house, they make the best dog breed for active families. This is a dog who wants nothing more than to be with their people, but they’re athletic and clever too.

I grew up with poodles and let me tell you, they literally bounce off the walls because they are so hyper. Below are 8 of the most hyper dog breeds. 1) Border Collie Via AKC Border Collies were originally bred as working dogs and certainly have the energy level to prove it! Some dog breeds require more exercise than others. Poodles are considered water dogs, they are highly intelligent and require a lot of exercise. Don’t expect these fluffy guys to calm down until they’re around two years old. For example, if your dog is destructive and chews up everything in sight, it may be because he has too much pent up energy. I can’t stress enough the importance of taking your dog on daily walks and playing with him/her.
