We have an 11 week old pup who has been home with us for almost 3 weeks. But I wondered how much you play/train with your dog/puppy each day? I am aware of the importance of letting him settle on his own sometimes and learning not to be with someone all the time. He does whine but is beginning to settle a bit more. But equally I don't want him to be 'bored' and want to make sure I am doing enough with him each day.

So, it’s great for your dog, and important for your physical and social wellbeing to play with your dog on a daily basis. Play is rewarding for us too and interacting with our dogs is a great stress reliever. Dogs don’t just need physical exercise; they also need mental stimulation and social contact. You can use some of your pet’s daily rations as rewards in regular training sessions or teaching new tricks. Most dogs will enjoy playing these games as part of our interactive games with our dogs. Your dog has a lot of natural intelligence that need to be exercised in order to keep them mentally stimulated and prevent them from getting bored and frustrated – and a great way to do this is using their natural desire to find food part of their daily enrichment. Above all, whatever game you play, have fun.

A helpful guideline is to give your puppy at least 10 minutes of exercise per month of age every day until he or she is fully grown. For many breeds, approximately 30-60 minutes a day is an ideal amount for exercise. This activity can include brisk runs or walks, playing fetch, and even training, which all incorporate some playtime. As your dog matures into its senior phase of life, the pace will slow down, and energy levels will drop. You can spend 30 minutes a day interacting with gentle play, determined by your dogs’ abilities and physical needs. Your dog’s level of fitness is also an important factor. If your dog is in good shape and active, it will generally require more playtime and activity.

Myself, not including time walking the dog, play about ten minutes in the morning before work and about 20-30 minutes at night. Just curious how many minutes of actual playtime people put towards their pups. This is when it's 100% time dedicated to playing directly with your dog and not multitasking. Asking mainly so I know where I stand and know whether or not I should be feeling guilty or feeling good.
