Teach your dog how to be alone, before leaving your dog home alone, you need to teach them that it is alright and that they will be able to cope on their own. The more you do this before you actually need to leave the house, the easier it will be when you do. Make sure they have a comfy bed or build them a doggy den, teach your dog to settle down calmly when you are busy, rather than giving them attention when they follow you around. Use baby gates across doorways to introduce time apart, leave them with a long-lasting treat or toy that releases food, slowly increase the time you leave them alone while you’re in the house, start to build up the time you leave the house for, factor some time apart into your daily routine. It’s normal for dogs to want to be with us, but ultimately you want them to learn to enjoy being by themselves and to not follow you around and rely on your attention.

start incorporating an interactive toy into your puppy's feeding regime. Rather than putting his meals in a boring bowl where the food quickly vanishes, stuff the meal into an interactive toy like a Kong. Your puppy will then entertain himself by chewing, shaking, and dropping the toy in order to eat. To make a chew toy more appealing for your puppy, you can store it in your their dry food bag/container. The chew toy will smell of his food and be more likely to be chewed. The toy will also appear newer because it has been stored out of the dog's sight. Dogs are drawn to novel items.

First teach your puppy to play alone while you are present. Offer a chewing toy, ideally stuffed with food or treats. Reward your puppy when he settles down and plays quietly with you around. Then leave him alone for just a few minutes, while he’s still playing with his toy. From there, you will build up to longer periods (an hour or more). You might consider using a crate. Teach them the crate is a safe and fun place with lots of treats and toys. Using ADAPTIL Junior will help your puppy feel reassured and comfortable when you are away.
